They are a lovely bunch, the horses that we've rescued, and a testament to the fact that we indeed live in a 'throwaway' society.

All of these animals have come to us from either law enforcement when they had been confiscated for cruelty, from the local veterinarians whose clients couldn't or wouldn't treat a sick horse, or from the horse owners themselves. Ours are not even the tip of the iceberg. The animals we have taken in are only a drop in the bucket of horses and ponies across this country that are in trouble.

We cry for them when they are too weak to stand from starvation. We cheer for them when they won't give up, and against all odds, recover and prosper. We say prayers for them when they don't recover. We love them. But, most of all, we try. We realize that we cannot save them all - and just like the starfish story - "it mattered to that one."
