" THE ANITA MEMORIAL FUND " to Rescue Abused & Neglected Horses

This Fund is in honor of a most special spirit...she deeply touched so many lives, both human and equine. In honor of her life, we are continuing her mission.....the rescue of horses. Allow me to introduce you to this unique and incredible human being we all knew as simply "Anita":

Anita was one of the greatest gifts we ever had. She called me her sister...and I always felt the same. There was no one in the world like Anita. She had a heart of gold, especially when it came to animals. How she would manage to come up with as many stories as she did to get me to help her place her ‘rescues’ is beyond my comprehension. Just when I thought I heard it all, I’d hear that ‘Anita-Giggle’ and she’d say..."but Andi, he’s such a good horse". That was it....I was toast! Between myself, Lynda & Mike of Equine Rescue Inc and Sharon & Bill of Shamrock Acres Rescue, we’d find a home for them somehow. Even if we took them in ourselves. We just couldn’t say no to Anita! She was a special and incredible life force ~full of love and energy and passion. She loved with an intensity unusual to humans, fought hard for those less fortunate, gave her all to anyone who needed help and to top it off, she could curse like a sailor and then a second later sing a sweet song into her horse Tony’s ear as he stood mesmerized, drooling carrots. Anita was well known for bringing in bags and bags of carrots...not just normal bags...50lb bags! That’s a lot of carrots. All the horses knew when Anita came to the barn. There was no one like Anita. Our friend Anita passed over in October of 2006. My last words to her were that she’d never have to worry about her horses. And she never will.

This fund was started as OUR gift to Anita. All donations are Tax Deductible and will be used strictly for the rescue and rehabilitation of the abused and neglected horses that come into Equine Rescue, Inc. Many of them are horses seized in law enforcement abuse cases. Whatever the circumstance of their arrival, once at ER Inc they receive the physical, mental and emotional care they need to heal and find a forever home with a loving family. Once they enter the ER,Inc system, they MUST be returned to the rescue if they are no longer wanted by the adopted family. This way, the horse never has to end up in an auction and/or eventually in the kill pen. They are protected and taken care of the rest of their lives! This was Anita’s passion. We’re just keeping it going in honor of a very great lady.
