First Equine Rescue Operation to be Certified by NYSHHAP
HORSE FARM BECOMES CERTIFIED
Equine Rescue, Inc., located on Dunthorne Drive, Bloomingburg recently became the first equine rescue operation to be certified under the New York State Horse Health Assurance Program.

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, Division of Animal Industry and Dr. Lyda Denney
wish to congratulate Lynda and Mike Broas on this accomplishment which is a tribute to the couple’s commitment to continuing education and to improving the quality of farm management.

NYSHHAP is designed to promote and to teach a pro-active approach to equine health, care, and welfare and to recognize exceptionally managed equine farms and through the education provided, ensures healthier horses and equine environments.

The New York Sate Horse Health Assurance Program is voluntary and open to any equine operation in the state, from boarding and training facilities to breeding facilities. Privately owned horse farms, such as people who keep one or two of their own horses, are also encouraged to participate.

A set of best management practices for disease prevention and good husbandry are identified and must be met in order to become certified. Certification is valid for one year.

Additional benefits include a free supply of microchips to uniquely identify horses and a scanner to read the chips, a NYSHHAP ‘Welcome Package” with equine care products, and educational materials.
There is no cost for the program materials or the certification visit made by the state representatives. The only expense comes from making any improvements to the facility in order to meet the certification standards.
